Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane named NHL rookie of month @NHLdotcom

NEW YORK - Chicago Blackhawks right-winger Patrick Kane, the No. 1 pick in last summer's draft, was named the NHL's rookie of the month for October on Friday.

Kane recorded five goals and 11 assists in 12 games and his 16 points were the most by a rookie in the month of October since 1992-93, when Winnipeg's Teemu Selanne picked up 20 and Boston's Joe Juneau had 17.

Kane edged Blackhawks linemate Jonathan Toews, who had 10 points (5-5) in 10 games, Edmonton Oilers forwards Andrew Cogliano (3-5 in 13 games) and Sam Gagner (1-6 in 12 games), and Minnesota Wild goaltender Josh Harding (2-2-1, 2.36 goals-against-average) for the award.
