CHI@CBJ: Kane beats Korpisalo with one-timer

COLUMBUS-- Patrick Kane scored his 398th NHL goal and had three assists for the Chicago Blackhawks in a 6-5 shootout win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Tuesday.

Oliver Bjorkstrand scored for Columbus on the power play at 10:00 of the third period and at 16:00 to tie it 5-5.
"You're up 5-3 you want to finish off the game," Kane said. "They just kept coming, had some chances and ended up tying it up. Nice to get two points but would've been nice to give them nothing."
Alex DeBrincat scored the only shootout goal.
"Everyone wants to win, but one point's better than none," Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson said. "We'll look at the good things and work on it."
Carl Soderberg had a goal and two assists, and Brandon Hagel scored his first NHL goal for Chicago (10-6-4).
Patrik Laine had two power-play goals and an assist, Atkinson had a goal and an assist, and Seth Jones had two assists for Columbus (8-7-5).
"We have a lot of work to do, but at least we can point to some things that we took some steps in the right direction and continue to try to get better," Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said.
Kevin Lankinen made 25 saves for the Blackhawks, including a penalty shot by Bjorkstrand at 3:36 of the second period to keep the game tied. He made five saves in overtime, including on Bjorkstrand in the final seconds.
"Without his saves at the end in overtime, we don't get to the shootout," Chicago coach Jeremy Colliton said. "He allowed us to stay alive long enough to come through and make the last play. I'm sure he wants to be better, but the fact is, he made the saves we needed."

Joonas Korpisalo made 29 saves for the Blue Jackets, who play here again Thursday.
Soderberg's power-play goal gave Chicago a 1-0 lead at 8:11 of the first period.
Kane made it 2-0 at 10:03 with his ninth goal of the season. He needs two goals to become the 100th NHL player to score 400 goals.
Atkinson scored on a breakaway at 11:34 to make it 2-1, his sixth goal in the past eight games.
Laine tied it 2-2 at 48 seconds of the second period, seven seconds into the Blue Jackets' first power play.
Jack Roslovic won the face-off at the left dot to Jones, who skated to his right along the blue line then passed to Laine at the top of the left circle for a one-timer that went under the crossbar.
"In my head I've done it so many times I don't need to think about it," Laine said. "I'm just going to rip it and hope for the best like everybody else. It's just natural. It's hard to describe."

Hagel scored off a pass from Kane to make it 3-2 at 8:12.
"I mean there are no words to describe this," the 22-year-old said after his 17th NHL game. "Dream come true, I've dreamt of this my whole life, no better feeling than getting a pass from a legend as well."
Laine tied 3-3 at 9:24, and Dominik Kubalik put Chicago ahead 4-3 at 15:05.
Adam Boqvist extended the lead to 5-3 at 3:37 of the third period with his first goal of the season during a 5-on-3. The defenseman was playing his second game after returning from the NHL COVID-19 protocol list.
