CHI@COL: Anisimov slams in loose puck for lead

DENVER -- Collin Delia made 35 saves in his season debut for the Chicago Blackhawks in a 2-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche at Pepsi Center on Friday.

"Felt good," said Delia, who was recalled from Rockford of the American Hockey League on Monday. "Sloppy at times but overall pretty good. I felt I could have controlled a few more rebounds and played the puck a little bit better, but sometimes you have to battle it out and that's what it was tonight.
"Obviously you want to get a little puck luck, but you make your own luck. You battle, you work hard and you think you deserve those bounces. On the road you're not going to ask why the puck stayed out of the net, we're just happy with the two points."

The Blackhawks took a 2-1 lead at 1:19 of the third period when Artem Anisimov tapped the puck across the goal line after Patrick Kane's shot squeaked by Philipp Grubauer.
"It was 3-on-2, 3-on-3, and Kane shot the puck and just kept going to the net," Anisimov said. "I see the puck go through [Grubauer] and knocked it in."
Grubauer blamed himself for the loss.
"In the end, one horrible goal cost us the game," he said.

CHI@COL: Kahun exits penalty box, sets up DeBrincat

Alex DeBrincat scored for the Blackhawks (13-19-6), who have won a season-high three straight games.
J.T. Compher scored for the Avalanche (19-11-6), who went 2-2-0 on a four-game homestand. Grubauer made 26 saves.
"Lot of chances, we just couldn't score," said Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen, who leads the NHL in scoring with 58 points but was held without a point for the seventh time in 36 games. "Guess it's one of those days where it doesn't go in. A tough one for sure.
"It's frustrating when you create a lot of chances. [Grubauer] at the end made some pretty nice saves to keep us in the game. Otherwise this is a game we should have won."
DeBrincat gave the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead at 8:07 of the first period when he scored from the base of the left circle off a pass from Dominik Kahun on a 2-on-1, nine seconds after Kahun returned after serving Chicago's penalty for too many men on the ice.
The Avalanche went 0-for-5 on the power play and are 1-for-14 in the past three games.
"It's the one thing where we haven't been that consistent lately," Rantanen said. "We can work on some things and talk about it a little bit what we can do better. It's execution and pace of play where we have to do better."
The Blackhawks have killed all eight of their penalties during the three-game winning streak.
"It was especially good tonight," Delia said. "We kind of eliminated their chances, kept them to the perimeter. [Defense] did a good job of boxing out, letting me see shots, so that was really good."
Compher tied it 1-1 at 2:58 of the second period. Alex Kerfoot was behind the net when he passed to Compher driving down the slot for a shot glove side.
"[Delia] was under siege at times and he was calm, just another day," Blackhawks coach Jeremy Colliton said. "He made some big saves, he had a calmness back there that was good for our team."

CHI@COL: Delia lays out to deny Bourque in the 3rd

They said it

"We got great goaltending tonight, that was a big part of it. We didn't seem to have as much juice in the legs, it was a battle all night. It felt like we were playing uphill, but credit to our guys. They found a way to survive and we got some timely saves. Our penalty kill was excellent."-- Blackhawks coach Jeremy Colliton
"There's a number of different reasons why we lost that game. I liked our effort, I liked a lot of things we did. I thought we were pretty good in the first [period], we missed on some opportunities. Second [period] we weren't as good. We had a lot of really good scoring chances. My problem is we missed the net on most of them." -- Avalanche coach Jared Bednar

Need to know

Avalanche forward Colin Wilson left with an upper-body injury at 3:36 of the third period. Bednar said Wilson's status is week-to-week and they'll need to recall someone from Colorado of the American Hockey League. "We're going to miss him for sure, he's been a consistent player for us and fills in a lot of different spots for us," Bednar said. … Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon had his seven-game point streak end. … Kane has six points (two goals, four assists) in a four-game point streak. … The Blackhawks blocked 22 shots, led by Brent Seabrook (six), and Erik Gustafsson and Connor Murphy (four each). … The loss was Grubauer's first in regulation in his past 12 starts (8-1-3).
