Chernov scores twice as Russia downs QMJHL all stars 4-3 in ADT Challenge

SAINT JOHN, N.B. - Pavel Chernov scored two goals and an assist to lead the Russia Selects 4-3 over the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League all-stars Wednesday in the second game of the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge.

Chernov opened the scoring at 14:21 of the first period and added another shorthanded at 3:05 of the second to put Russia up 2-1 at Harbour Station.

Evgeny Dadonov scored the eventual winner at 16:01 of the third and Mikhail Pashnin also added a single for the Selects, who lost 5-3 in the first game Monday in Sydney, N.S.

Maxime Sauve, Luke Adam and Paul Byron scored for the CHL team, with goalie Jake Allen making 29 saves in the loss.

Sergey Gayduchenko stopped 30 shots for Russia.

The six-game ADT Canada-Russia Challenge is the last step in the national junior team's evaluation process and features the Russians playing two games against each of Canada's three major junior leagues. The Russians will next face a team of OHL all-stars Thursday in Guelph and Monday in St. Catharines.
