Chara, Seidenberg working their way back to ice and Bruins look to youth on defence

BOSTON - Bruins defenceman Zdeno Chara says he can't put a timetable on his return as he tries to recover from an undisclosed injury.

Chara was injured in last week's exhibition game against the New York Rangers. Since Monday, he has been on the ice alone, before his teammates practiced. Asked twice on Thursday if he was able to shoot the puck yet, Chara said twice, "I skated today."

If Chara isn't able to make it back for the regular-season opener on Oct. 8, it will be a setback for a defence group that is also missing Dennis Seidenberg. The Bruins' No. 2 defenceman is still working his way back from hernia surgery. He isn't ready to get back on skates yet.
