Stephenson signs one-year contract with Capitals

Restricted free agent forward gets $1.05 million, avoids arbitration hearing

Chandler Stephenson signed a one-year, $1.05 million contract with the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

The 25-year-old forward, who was a restricted free agent, avoided a salary arbitration hearing scheduled for Aug. 1.

Stephenson had 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 64 games with the Capitals last season and no points in six Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Selected by Washington in the third round (No. 77) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Stephenson has 29 points (11 goals, 18 assists) in 144 games for the Capitals and seven points (two goals, five assists) in 30 playoff games.

Stephenson won the Stanley Cup with Washington in 2018.
