VANCOUVER -- Watching goaltender Gary Steeves shift his body into a save on a rising short-side shot during a game of ball hockey at the NHL Centennial Fan Arena on Sunday was impressive.

Finding out after the game that Steeves is totally blind made it even more remarkable.

LAS VEGAS -- Phil and Sharon Schulyer remember how they felt in 1992 when the Tampa Bay Lightning joined the NHL.

The London, Ontario natives wanted to come to Las Vegas and recapture that sense of excitement they felt for the Lightning 25 years ago.

Phil was a Tampa Bay fan that entire time.

"I've switched teams now," he said Wednesday.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The NHL's Centennial Fan Arena made its way to New York this weekend, where New York Islanders fans were able to participate in an interactive experience to help honor the League's first 100 years.

The festivities began Saturday at Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, New York, where fans had the rare opportunity to watch the Islanders practice.

Donations made to Long Island Sled Hockey, Long Island Blues

Islanders fans can visit NHL Centennial Fan Arena this weekend @NHL

Long Island Sled Hockey and the Long Island Blues each received $2,500 on Saturday as part of the NHL's Hockey Is For Everyone initiative. The presentations were made at the Northwell Health Ice Center, the New York Islanders practice facility, in East Meadow, New York.

The donations were made are part of the NHL Centennial Tour, which is visiting each League city in North America. Along the way, the NHL is donating to local nonprofits that focus on diversity and inclusion in hockey.

TORONTO -- While the similarities between hockey and auto racing are few, Indy driver James Hinchcliffe identified one right away when he toured the NHL Centennial Fan Arena.

As he explored the 53-foot museum truck, Hinchcliffe was particularly fascinated with the wall featuring the evolution of goaltending masks, from the earliest wire-only ones to more modern-day styles with custom painted designs. The creative paint jobs were something he immediately related to.
