For the first time in Sharks history they won a game after trailing by three or more goals after the first period.
The Sharks (15-10-2) trailed 3-0 after the first period and 4-2 after the second, but rallied with two goals in the third. They did it on special teams, with Logan Couture and Joe Thornton each scoring on the power play, and Melker Karlsson and Barclay Goodrow each scoring a shorthanded goal.
"It was a wild night," Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said. "It was one of those crazy nights. Over a long season we're going to have games like this. We'll take it. We've been on the other end of these before. It's nice to be on the right side of it."

Thornton had a goal and two assists to give him 1,410 NHL points and move past Dale Hawerchuk for 19th place in NHL history.
"Our 5-on-5 play early was good," Hurricanes coach Bill Peters said. "Our specialty teams hurt us tonight. We were minus-4 on special teams. It's tough to win when you do that."
Sebastian Aho scored two goals, and Victor Rask and Jeff Skinner each scored once for the Hurricanes (11-10-6), who have lost four of their past five games (1-2-2).
"When you go into the third with a two-goal lead, you're in great shape," Skinner said. "But that was not a good enough third period. [Ward] came up with some big saves. He's probably the difference in going overtime."
Couture cut Carolina's lead to 4-3 at 8:31 in the third, and Goodrow tied it 4-4 on a breakaway at 11:56.
"Pretty good game for the fans probably, huh?" Burns said. "It's hockey. Just the last swings. That game had everything in it. Tough start, great finish. You got to try to learn what we were struggling with and it worked at the end. It felt good."
Aho put the Hurricanes ahead 1-0 at 9:01 of the first period when he took a pass from Noah Hanifin and scored on a wrist shot from close range.

The Hurricanes made it 2-0 at 11:37 on Rask's fifth goal of the season. Elias Lindholm made a backhand, cross-ice pass through traffic, and Rask beat Martin Jones with a wrist shot from the right circle.
Aho scored at 14:14 on a wrist shot from the slot into the upper-right corner to make it 3-0.
"We did pretty good 5-on-5," Aho said. "We just needed to create more opportunities. We have to play better. We need to go back to work and play our game for 60 minutes."
The Sharks cut Carolina's lead to 3-1 on Karlsson's goal on a 2-on-1 rush at 10:21 of the second period.
Skinner responded with his 11th goal at 14:14, beating Jones with a wrist shot through traffic from in front of the crease to make it 4-1.
Thornton scored from the left circle at 17:51 to cut Carolina's lead to 4-2.
"I thought we started to play in the second period," DeBoer said. "The first period was what it was. We even had a couple chances in the first that we didn't bury, but I thought we started to play in the second period, and obviously the third was better than the first or second."

They said it

"We were changing on both of them, and I think there were some turnovers. We had to get back on those." -- Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner on the Sharks' two shorthanded goals

"I figured we would push back. We usually do. There's a lot of character in that room, a lot of proud guys. When we've been in that spot before we usually push back, and we did tonight. Fortunate, obviously, to get a win. That's not the way you draw it up to start the game. We dug ourselves out of a hole. You got to win all kinds of ways in this league over 82 games." -- Sharks coach Peter DeBoer
