"There were a lot of goals," Teravainen said. "I think it was huge to get the momentum right back and stay with it."
Derek Ryan had a goal and an assist, and Jordan Staal and Jeff Skinner scored for Carolina (22-19-8), which had lost consecutive games. Noah Hanifin had three assists and was plus-5 on his 21st birthday.

Cam Ward made 26 saves for the Hurricanes, who gave up 2-0, 4-2 and 5-4 leads.
Charles Hudon had two goals and an assist for his first NHL three-point game for Montreal (20-23-6). Brendan Gallagher and Jeff Petry scored, and Carey Price made 23 saves.
"You win as a team, you lose as a team, but I would expect our players to be ready to play a game and be focused," Canadiens coach Claude Julien said. "And some of them were, but a lot of them weren't, and that's what we have to get better at. And you know what, pros have to be pros. We don't babysit, we prepare guys. … They've got to be pros and be ready to play. That's what good teams do."
Teravainen scored at 1:34 of the first period to give Carolina a 1-0 lead. Staal made it 2-0 with a power-play goal at 8:03.

"We just have to play better," Gallagher said. "We weren't good enough in the first."
Seven goals were scored in the second period, including four 1:27 apart, and five in 2:51.
"It reminded me of the '80s a little bit there," Hurricanes coach Bill Peters said. "There was a lot of chaos."
Hudon scored his first goal of the game at 6:08 of the second to draw Montreal within 2-1, and Gallagher scored 39 seconds later to tie it at 2-2 at 6:47.

Skinner scored 19 seconds later to put Carolina ahead 3-2 at 7:06.
Teravainen's second goal of the game, 29 seconds later, made it 4-2 at 7:35.
Hudon made it 4-3 at 8:59, but Petry scored at 18:42 to draw Montreal even for the second time in the period at 4-4.
Ryan's 11th goal at 19:54 gave the Hurricanes their third lead at 5-4.
"We battled hard, we tied it up, but we just gave too much momentum swinging their way," Canadiens forward Paul Byron said.
