Hurricanes team scope

Eddie Lack will be in goal for the Carolina Hurricanes, who are still searching for their first win of the season. After failing to hold three-goal leads and losing consecutive games in overtime to the Winnipeg Jets and Vancouver Canucks, the Hurricanes lost 3-2 at the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. "Obviously getting the two points in overtime helps rather than having zero points, but I think for the most part we've been satisfied with how we've played for large stretches of games," forward Lee Stempniak said. "It's a matter of, when we have the lead, playing smart and continuing to make plays. I think we're there. It's just a matter of putting it together." The Hurricanes are in the middle of a six-game road trip to start the season that concludes with games against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday and Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. "We want to try to pick up as many points as we can," forward Jeff Skinner said. "The best way to do that is to get two by winning. It's a big game for us. I think coming off of a loss, hopefully we can get off to a good start. There's been a lot of good things we want to build off of and tighten up some of those things we've had miscues and we'll be fine. Hopefully we can keep the good things in our game."

Flames team scope

Right wing Alex Chiasson could start on the Calgary Flames' top line with Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan. Chiasson ended up there in the Flames' 4-3 overtime victory against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. "Good opportunities for a player … that's what you want," Chiasson said. "You want the opportunity to play with high-level players. It'd be nice to get a chance to play with those guys." Chiasson has one goal in four games this season after scoring eight in 77 games with the Ottawa Senators last season. "I think I've done a good job of that this season the first four games. I'll try to bring a little more every day. I think I can be an impact player in this league. But that's for me to show." Goaltender Brian Elliott, who allowed 10 goals in the Flames' first two games, is expected to start after Chad Johnson went 1-0-1 in the past two games. The win against Buffalo was Calgary's first this season, and captain Mark Giordano expects it to instill confidence in his teammates. "I thought there were times in that game where things could've went south for us and it went the other way," he said. "The momentum-killers we had in that game we were able to fight through. That's a positive. The win is obviously the biggest positive. Hopefully it'll have guys feeling better and better."
