Kase Ducks Hurricanes

ANAHEIM -- Corey Perry scored a game-tying goal in the third period and Ondrej Kase scored in the shootout to help the Anaheim Ducks to a 6-5 win against the Carolina Hurricanes at Honda Center on Wednesday.
It was the first post-regulation win for Anaheim, which is 1-6 this season in games that go beyond the third period. Carolina scored twice in the third, but Anaheim came back each time and tied the game 5-5. Nick Ritchie deflected Cam Fowler's point shot at 16:01 to make it 5-4, and Perry scored at 17:32 to force overtime.

"Every night isn't going to be pretty," Perry said. "You're going to have to win some ugly ones in this league. The League is so tight nowadays. It showed a lot of character to come back. We were down after two and battled with a couple minutes left. Those are big momentum carryovers."
Stefan Noesen scored his first NHL goal after being called up from San Diego of the American League on Wednesday morning, and Andrew Cogliano and Ryan Kesler scored for Anaheim (13-9-5), which has given up 13 goals in the past two games. John Gibson made 29 saves.

Teuvo Teravainen scored twice and Jay McClement, Sebastian Aho and Brett Pesce scored for Carolina (10-10-6), which matched a season-high with five goals. Cam Ward made 33 saves.
"At times, I thought we did a real good job at controlling the tempo of the game," Hurricanes coach Bill Peters said. "We had the puck lots, but we need to do a better job defensively and have a better awareness away from the puck."
Cogliano scored on his own rebound at 16:57 of the first period to make it 1-0. Teravainen scored a power-play goal with 38 seconds left in the period to tie the game.
McClement made it 2-1 with a beauty of a backhand shot at 8:45 in the second and Aho quickly made it 3-1 at 10:10, breaking away and beating Gibson with a backhand.

Noesen scored at 13:52 with former AHL teammates getting assists; Joseph Cramarossa sent the puck to Kase on the forecheck, and Kase's touch pass found Noesen in the slot where he beat Ward with a high wrist shot to make it 3-2.
His goal came in his third NHL game and one day after scoring a game-tying goal with 9.3 seconds left for San Diego.
"It's definitely surreal," Noesen said. "I'm happy to be here. I'm happy [San Diego] got a win [Tuesday] night and we got a win tonight too."
Pesce scored his first goal of the season at 4:46 of the third period to give Carolina a 4-2 lead.
Kesler made it 4-3 at 8:21, but Teravainen scored his second of the game a minute later.
Ducks forward Rickard Rakell missed his second straight game because of an upper-body injury.

Goal of the game

Perry caught a loose puck at the edge of the right circle and beat Ward for his first goal since Oct. 25 and his fifth this season. He and the Ducks are expecting that goal to lead to more. "There was a player that I coached before and his name was Teemu Selanne," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "He used to say that goal scoring was like pouring ketchup out of the ketchup bottle; once it starts to flow, then it comes readily."

Save of the game

With one second left in overtime, Justin Faulk sent a hard slap shot while Gibson was off-balance, but the latter made the save to send the game to a shootout.
