Caps score 2 in 3rd, Laich nets OT winner in 3-2 victory over Islanders @NHLdotcom

Mike Green scored in the third period and set up Brooks Laich's overtime winner to give the Washington Capitals a stirring 3-2 comeback victory over the lowly New York Islanders on Saturday night.

Green started Washington's rally from a 2-0 hole in the third when he whistled a slap shot past goalie Dwayne Roloson at 6:02. Keith Aucoin got some help from the leg of Islanders forward Josh Bailey to tie it with 6:50 left before Laich's heroics.

Green raced the puck up ice and sent a floating pass across the crease to Laich, who deflected it past Roloson a minute into the extra session and sent the Capitals (6-2-2) to their fourth straight win.

The Islanders (1-4-4), who had the NHL's worst record last season, failed to protect a two-goal, third-period lead for the second straight home game.
