Alex Ovechkin had the tying goal with 2:34 remaining in the third period, and T.J. Oshie and Evgeny Kuznetsov scored in the shootout to give the Washington Capitals a 2-1 preseason win against the Boston Bruins at Verizon Center on Friday.

The Bruins took a 1-0 lead 4:06 into the game on a goal by Loui Eriksson and held it until Ovechkin finished a passing play from Oshie and Kuznetsov by beating backup goalie Jeremy Smith.

The Capitals killed a Boston power play during the 3-on-3 overtime.

Washington goalie Braden Holtby, who relieved Philipp Grubauer after one period and made 23 saves through overtime, denied Ryan Spooner and David Krejci in the shootout.

Boston starter Tuukka Rask played the first two periods and made 15 saves. The Bruins finished the preseason 4-2-1 and open the regular season against the Winnipeg Jets at TD Garden on Oct. 8.

Washington (4-0-2) hosts the New York Islanders on Sunday in its final preseason game.
