The Washington Capitals and Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) Foundation raised $130,242 for five cancer-related charities through its November
Hockey Fights Cancer
campaign.

The funds will be split between Flashes of Hope, Hope for Henry, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

The Capitals teamed up with FORTUNE 500® science and technology company Leidos throughout November to educate the hockey community about cancer through Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Month. Hockey Fights Cancer is a league-wide initiative founded by the NHL and NHL Players' Association and is dedicated to raising awareness for national and local organizations involved in cancer care and research.

MSE Foundation hosted an auction featuring signed lavender jerseys worn during warmups on Nov. 2; autographed, used hockey sticks with lavender tape; signed, limited-edition Hockey Fights Cancer pucks; two Hockey Fights Cancer-themed and autographed goalie masks worn during Hockey Fights Cancer Night; a team-signed Hockey Fights Cancer practice jersey; and a team-signed lavender Hockey Fights Cancer flag.

Eighteen jerseys were auctioned for $1,000 or more, with T.J. Oshie's jersey the top seller at $3,100. Holtby's mask was auctioned for $4,000, while Grubauer's mask was auctioned for $1,850. Other top bid recipients were jerseys worn and autographed by Alex Ovechkin ($3,000), Tyler Graovac (1,850), Jay Beagle ($1,800), Evgeny Kuznetsov ($1,750) and Matt Niskanen ($1,750).

All proceeds from Capitals mobile seat upgrades platform from the Nov. 2 (New York Islanders), Nov. 6 (Arizona Coyotes), Nov. 20 (Calgary Flames) and Nov. 30 (Los Angeles Kings) games benefited the Capitals' Hockey Fights Cancer beneficiaries. In addition, fans were able to purchase custom-made lavender T-shirts in honor of #CapsFightCancer online, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the campaigns beneficiaries. Hockey Fights Cancer pins also were available for purchase at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex Team Store and online through the auction. Proceeds from MSE Foundation's Nov. 2 50/50 fundraiser and cash donations also rounded out the total.
