WASHINGTON (AP) -Washington Capitals goalie Olie Kolzig is expected to start Thursday against the Boston Bruins, his first appearance since missing a month with a knee injury.
Backup goalie Frederic Cassivi was assigned Wednesday to Hershey of the American Hockey League. Called up Feb. 13, a day after Kolzig was hurt during practice, Cassivi made one start and went 0-1-1 with a 2.59 goals-against average in four appearances.
With Brent Johnson and Cassivi filling in at goalie, the Capitals went 1-8-4 without Kolzig - including 0-6-2 entering the game at Boston.
The 36-year-old Kolzig is 19-19-5 with a 3.06 GAA this season.
Johnson appeared to injure himself in Monday's 4-2 loss at Atlanta, but he and Kolzig both practiced Wednesday. Johnson might start Washington's home game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday, so that Kolzig doesn't play in consecutive games.
