Canucks to give veteran defenseman Dan McGillis tryout @NHLdotcom

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -Veteran defenseman Dan McGillis joined the Vancouver Canucks on a tryout basis Thursday.

The 35-year-old free agent has 56 goals and 238 points in 634 career NHL games with five teams, but spent all of last season playing for Lowell of the American Hockey League. His last NHL action came with New Jersey in 2005-06, when he played 27 games.

Heading into their third preseason game Thursday night against Edmonton, the Canucks were already missing three defenseman.

Aaron Miller had abdominal surgery the day before training camp started, Sami Salo fractured his wrist in an intra-squad game Sunday, and Willie Mitchell has been resting a sore groin.
