Canucks re-sign defensemen Tanev, Alberts @NHL

The Vancouver Canucks have re-signed defensemen Christopher Tanev and Andrew Alberts, the team announced Thursday.

Iain MacIntyre of the Vancouver Sun reported Tanev's deal is for one season at $1.5 million. Tanev, 23, was a restricted free agent after scoring two goals and seven points in 38 games for the Canucks in 2012-13. He was fifth among the team's regular defensemen with an average of 17:17 of ice time per game.

Tanev (6-foot-2, 185 pounds) missed the end of the season and the team's first-round Stanley Cup Playoff series against the San Jose Sharks with a lower-body injury.

Alberts, 32, played 24 games for Vancouver last season, with one assist, 32 penalty minutes and 39 hits. The Vancouver Province reports his contract is worth $600,000.

Alberts (6-5, 218) has played 449 NHL games over eight seasons with the Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and Canucks.
