Canucks D O'Brien to be benched for 3 games @NHLdotcom

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -Vancouver Canucks defenseman Shane O'Brien will be benched for the next three games for disciplinary reasons.

Canucks coach Alain Vigneault says O'Brien won't play in Tuesday night's game against the Phoenix Coyotes. He also won't accompany the team for Thursday's game in Los Angeles or Friday in Anaheim.

O'Brien will not practice with the team until Sunday.

Vigneault did not give a specific reason for the action, although O'Brien was late for practice Monday.

Vigneault says O'Brien is not suspended, and could play in case of injury.

O'Brien did not speak to the media after practice.
