Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Canucks announced today the top ten things fans can look forward to when the Canucks celebrate Chinese New Year on February 17 vs Boston, presented by Tim Hortons.

  1. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats early to catch the pre-game tribute to Larry Kwong, the first player of Asian heritage to play in the NHL. A video detailing Kwong's road to the NHL and ceremonial puck drop will take place.
  2. Courtesy of Air Canada, fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win a round-trip flight for two to China.
  3. To help celebrate the Year of the Dog, Sven Baertschi has sketched a picture of his own dog, named "Bear," for young fans to colour in. The drawing will be available in the Canucks game day magazine as well as in the kid zone (between sections 101 and 103) at Rogers Arena. It will also be available online.
  4. The rink boards in Rogers Arena will take a different look with special Chinese New Year messaging from all Partners participating in the celebrations.
  5. Traditional Chinese cuisine will be featured on the concourse. Pot Stickers, wontons, crispy pork belly on rice and steamed soup dumplings with black vinegar are among a few of the options that will be available to fans.
  6. Prior to the game, the Canucks will sport a new look in warm-ups. Developed in collaboration with Vancouver native and China based designer Charlie Chien,each member of the Canucks will don a red Adidas jersey that combines elements of both Chinese and West Coast culture, including a stylized "year of the dog" patch. The set of player worn, warm up jerseys and other themed merchandise will be available in the Canucks team store, kiosks and vanbase.ca.
  7. Fans are encouraged to come early for pre-game festivities, including lion and dragon dancers, a traditional eye-dotting ceremony and a lucky puck hunt, beginning at 5pm (weather dependent).
  8. Live entertainment will be integrated throughout the night, including traditional drumming and a Chinese lion dance during the second intermission.
  9. Fans will have the opportunity to partake in pre-game Tim Hortons coffee sampling and a limited number of Pepsi Chinese New Year edition cans as well as Lindt Chinese New Year chocolate tins will be available.
  10. For fans unable to make the game, the Canucks will participate in the Chinese New Year parade on Sunday, February 18th at 11am. Fin will be in attendance, alongside Tim Hortons mascot, walking in the parade. Fans will also have the chance to receive partner giveaways. The 1.3-km long route starts at the Millennium Gate on Pender Street (between Shanghai Alley and Taylor Street), proceeds east along Pender Street, turns south onto Gore Street, turns west onto Keefer Street and then disperses on Keefer at Abbott.
