Canucks 4, Oilers 3, SO @NHLdotcom

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -Jason Krog's shootout goal proved to be the winner and the Vancouver Canucks knocked off the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in a shootout in the opening preseason game for both teams Monday night.

With the shootout tied 1-1, Krog scored to give Vancouver a 2-1 lead. Ales Hemsky had a last chance for the Oilers, but he was stopped by Cory Schneider.

The Canucks had tied the game late in the third period on Dan Gendur's goal. Edmonton had taken a 3-2 lead on Sam Gagner's breakaway in the second period.

The game was tied at 2 after the first period as the teams combined to score three goals in the first five minutes. Edmonton took a 1-0 lead on Sheldon Souray's goal in the opening minute. A minute later the Canucks tied it on Pierre-Cedric Labrie's pass to Jeff Cowan. The Oilers regained the lead just before the 5-minute mark as Eric Cole, who was acquired in an offseason trade with Carolina, swatted in a rebound following a Shawn Horcoff tip.

The Canucks pulled even 6 minutes later as Daniel Sedin dished a pass in front of the net to a pinching Mattias Ohlund to tie the game 2-2 after the first.
