'Canes-Lightning on NHL Network @NHLdotcom
Time is starting to run out on the Carolina Hurricanes as they scramble to earn a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. They enter the weekend three points behind eighth-place Buffalo, making their visit to Tampa Bay on Friday night a must-win game.

Both teams have been off since playing at home on Tuesday -- Carolina beat Ottawa 4-3 while the Lightning lost 5-2 to the New York Islanders.

The NHL Network will air the game in the United States, beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET. It's one of five on Friday's NHL schedule, all but one of which begin at 7:30.

The Sabres, the team the 'Canes are chasing, are also in action -- they host Florida at HSBC Arena. The Panthers come in following a 4-0 loss at Chicago on Wednesday, while the Sabres have been off since Tuesday's 2-0 win at Montreal.

Red-hot Washington goes for its 12th win in 13 tries when it visits Ottawa, a game that can be seen in Canada on TSN and RDS. The Senators are back home after Thursday night's 2-1 shootout win in New York. The Caps also won their last game in a shootout, 5-4 at Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Vancouver, the front-runner in the West, continues a road trip with a visit to Atlanta. Both teams are coming off 2-1 road victories -- the Canucks at Detroit on Wednesday, the Thrashers against the New York Islanders on Thursday.

The evening's action gets under way at 7 p.m. ET when the Pittsburgh Penguins host New Jersey. Pittsburgh is back at the Consol Energy Center after Thursday's 2-1 shootout win at Philadelphia, while the Devils have been off for two days after losing 4-1 at Boston on Tuesday.
