RALEIGH, NC - Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has hired Patrick Dwyer as Assistant Coach of the Charlotte Checkers.

"Patrick brings a wealth of knowledge from a long career," said Waddell. "We're excited to bring him back to the organization by adding him to the Checkers' coaching staff."
Dwyer, 36, skated in 416 NHL games with the Hurricanes from 2008-15, registering 93 points (42g, 51a). He also posted 196 points (94g, 102a) in 354 career AHL games with Chicago, Albany and Charlotte. Dwyer spent the 2018-19 season playing for the EIHL's Belfast Giants, tallying 61 points (25g, 36a) in 38 games. The Spokane, Wash., native represented the United States at the 2012 IIHF World Championship, recording three points (1g, 2a) in eight games. Dwyer was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth round, 116th overall, of the 2002 NHL Draft and played four seasons of college hockey at Western Michigan.
