MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens have hired Craig Ramsay as a coaching consultant.
Ramsay spent last season as an assistant coach with the Edmonton Oilers.
The 64-year-old has totalled over 1,500 games as assistant coach and over 150 as head coach with seven NHL teams.
As a player, Ramsay was drafted by Buffalo in 1971 and spent 14 seasons with the Sabres, recording 252 goals and 420 assists over 1,070 games.
He was an all-star in 1976 and won the Selke Trophy in 1985 as the NHL's best defensive forward.
"On a consulting basis, he will be called upon regularly during the season to share his knowledge with our coaching group. Our players will also benefit from his expertise," Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin said in a statement.
