Canadiens' Gallagher goes 4-0 in NFL picks

by Arpon Basu

When Montreal Canadiens right wing Brendan Gallagher agreed to share his NFL Playoffs predictions on, he couldn't have been happier.

"Hey," Gallagher said to teammate Nathan Beaulieu that day, "you're looking at the new NFL Insider."

After one week, the new NFL Insider is looking pretty good.

Gallagher went 4-0 in his first week of predictions on, successfully picking the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers to reach their respective conference championship games.

Perhaps his greatest prediction was about the Cardinals' win against the Green Bay Packers.

"Although I'm sure [Packers] quarterback Aaron Rodgers will find a way to make it entertaining," Gallagher wrote last week, "Arizona wins and moves on to the NFC Championship Game."

All Rodgers did "to make it entertaining" was complete two of the greatest passes in NFL playoff history in the final minute of regulation. First, he fired a 60-yard bomb on 4th-and-20 to wide receiver Jeff Janis and then, with regulation time expired, found Janis again on a Hail Mary that traveled another 60 yards in the air and into the end zone to tie the game.

The Cardinals prevailed in overtime when Larry Fitzgerald took a Carson Palmer pass and went 75 yards to the Green Bay 5-yard-line on the first play from scrimmage in overtime, then scored a touchdown two snaps later on a shovel pass from Palmer.

It was entertaining, to say the least, just as Gallagher predicted.

Check on Friday to see who Gallagher picks to make the Super Bowl. He's raised the bar pretty high after one week.

No pressure, Brendan.
