Canada, Finland tied after two periods as PKs shine

by Adam Kimelman / NHL.com

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Special teams told the story in the second period as penalty killers for Canada and Finland stood tall.

Finland's Saku Salminen scored the period's only goal at 3:07, one-timing a Jusse Ikonen pass past Eric Comrie to tie the game 2-2.

Canada's shorthanded unit kept Finland from doing any more damage, killing off a cross-checking call on Matthew Finn. It was the fourth successful kill for Canada in the game.

Finland's man-down group did yeoman's effort later in the period, denying Canada on back-to-back power plays, including a 14-second 5-on-3 Canada advantage.

Comrie stopped seven of eight shots in the second, while Finland's Juuse Saros stopped all 15 shots he faced.

Back with more after the game.
