Canada beats Switzerland 6-3 at Ivan Hlinka under-18 hockey tournament @NHLdotcom

BRECLAV, Czech Republic - John McFarland scored twice as Canada remained unbeaten at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka under-18 hockey tournament with a 6-3 win over Switzerland on Wednesday.

The defending champions controlled the pace for the majority of the game, outshooting the Swiss 42-17 to improve to 2-0 in Pool A action. Switzerland fell to 0-2.

McFarland, of the OHL's Sudbury Wolves, scored late in the first period to erase a 2-1 deficit and added a pivotal insurance goal midway through the third. He leads the team with three goals in two games.

Jeffrey Skinner of the OHL's Kitchener Rangers also had a pair of goals and was named the player of the game, while Tyler Toffoli of the OHL's Ottawa 67's and Michael Bournival of the QMJHL's Shawinigan Cataractes added singles.

Calvin Pickard of the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds made 14 saves in the victory.

Reto Schmutz, Eric Arnold and Gaetan Haas scored for Switzerland.
