Talbot, Cam

Cam Talbot signed a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the Calgary Flames on Monday.

The 31-year-old goalie was 11-17-3 with a 3.40 goals-against average, .892 save percentage and one shutout in 35 games (32 starts) with the Philadelphia Flyers and Edmonton Oilers last season. He was 1-2-0 with a 3.70 GAA and an .881 save percentage in four games with Philadelphia after he was acquired in a trade for goalie Anthony Stolarz on Feb. 16.
He went 42-22-8 in 2016-17 with the Oilers, breaking their all-time regular-season wins record and leading them to the playoffs, but was 31-31-3 the following season.
He told Sportsnet he is looking to turn his career around with the Flames.
"To be honest I have a lot to prove," Talbot said. "Last year was my worst as a pro and it's something I don't take lightly. It will be a redemption year for myself.
"Even the season before last, I don't think I was as bad as most people thought. One of our top defensemen went down Andrej Sekera]*
Treliving said he envisions Talbot and David Rittich, a restricted free agent, pushing for playing time, similar to how Rittich competed with Mike Smith last season. Smith signed with the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.
"A big part of this move is David Rittich," Treliving said. "You're not bringing in Cam to replace David but coming in here and supporting David. We think it's a good tandem.
"When you have two goaltenders there's got to be a push to each other, you want them to push each other. There's a competitiveness, obviously, to make each other better and make themselves better. But there's also a relationship where you're voting for the other guy and rooting for the other guy when he's in net. I know Cam's personality, not just his game but being around him at the 2016 IIHF World Championship
