Calvin Pickard makes 37 saves, Thunderbirds shut out Giants 3-0 @NHL

KENT, Wash. - Calvin Pickard stopped 37 shots and the Seattle Thunderbirds scored three goals in the game's final five minutes to take a 3-0 Western Hockey League victory over the Vancouver Giants on Tuesday night.

Pickard picked up his second shutout of the season and the ninth of his career. The win gives Pickard a 13-12-1 record on the season.

Branden Troock scored the game-winning goal, his sixth of the season, at 15:27 of the third period. Luke Lockhart added a goal just over a minute later and Justin Hickman scored into an empty net to finish the scoring.

Adam Morrison and Jackson Whistle combined for 31 saves for the Giants.

Seattle (13-15-1) won for the second game in a row while Vancouver (20-12-2) lost for the second straight time.

Both teams were scoreless on three power play goals.

Vancouver played without leading scorer Brendan Gallagher (24 goals and 22 assists) and head coach Don Hay, both away at the Canadian World Junior tryout camp.
