CRANBROOK, B.C. - Matt Calvert scored two goals, including the overtime winner as the Wheat Kings beat the Kootenay Ice 4-3 in Western Hockey League Playoff action on Tuesday night.
Calvert got the game winner on a 2-on-1 break and fired a perfect wrist shot high on the glove side. Brandon took a 3-0 stranglehold in the first-round series, and can complete the sweep Wednesday in Cranbrook.
Brandon opened the scoring as Brayden Schenn chipped in the puck past Ice goalie Todd Mathews after the original point shot missed the net.
Kootenay tied the game 1-1 as Brayden McNabb's point shot beat screened Wheat Kings goalie Andrew Hayes.
The Ice took a 2-1 lead on a power-play as Kevin King scored on a wrist shot high on the glove side.
The Wheat Kings tied it 2-2 as Calvert was free on a partial breakaway as scored on a low wrist shot.
Brandon made it 3-2 late in the 2nd period as Matt Lowry's long shot beat Mathews off his blocker arm.
Kootenay tied the game 3-3 on a power-play as Tylan Stephens came on a 2-on-1 break, and his wrist shot went in on the blocker side.
