Calgary Hitmen beat Moose Jaw Warriors 7-3, cut series lead to 2-1

MOOSE JAW, Sask. - Cody Sylvester and Ian Schultz each scored twice as the Calgary Hitmen thumped the Moose Jaw Warriors 7-3 in Western Hockey League playoff action Monday.

Moose Jaw still leads the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter-final 2-1 after taking the first two games in Calgary.

Misha Fisenko, Zak Stebner and Joel Broda had the other goals for the Hitmen, while Del Cowan and Tyler Shattock chipped in with two assists each.

Jason Bast, with two, and Thomas Frazee replied for Moose Jaw.

The Hitmen, who finished with the WHL's best record in the regular season, got off to a quick start in the first with Sylvester scoring at 1:42 and Schultz doubling the Calgary lead at 19:08.

With the Hitmen leading 4-2 after two, Bast brought Moose Jaw to within one early in the third.

But Calgary poured it on after that, scoring three times in just over four minutes for a 7-3 final.

Martin Jones made 31 saves for Calgary, while Jeff Bosch allowed six goals on 30 shots for Moose Jaw. Brandon Glover stopped seven of eight shots in relief.

Game 4 goes Tuesday in Moose Jaw.
