CGY@VAN: Lindholm gets deflection for the game-winner

VANCOUVER --Elias Lindholm scored at 3:24 of overtime to give the Calgary Flames a 6-5 win against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Sunday.

Lindholm's cross-ice pass deflected in off the stick of Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler and past Braden Holtby.
"First of all, we got the win, which was really positive," said Flames forward Adam Ruzicka, who made his NHL debut. "And it was a surreal feeling to get the first one, and I hope there's many more to come."

Brock Boeser scored twice in the third period, including the tying goal on a deflection at 17:58 when the Canucks rallied from 5-1 down to force overtime. They scored twice on the power play and once shorthanded in the third.
"We talked about one thing going into the third," Canucks forward J.T. Miller said. "Pretty much any team going into a situation like that you've got to show character and pride, and not leave your goalie out to dry any more than we had, so it was definitely a good push."
Andrew Mangiapane scored twice, and Jacob Markstrom made 30 saves in his 15thstraight start for the Flames (25-26-3), who have won three straight games.
"It was just special teams in the third period," coach Darryl Sutter said. "Our penalty kill wasn't very good in the third and their power play was not very good all night. There wasn't a lot going on out there."
Miller had a goal and two assists, Quinn Hughes had three assists, and Holtby made 30 saves for the Canucks (22-28-4), who have lost three of their past four games.
Calgary clinched fifth place in the seven-team Scotia North Division, five points ahead of seventh-place Vancouver. Neither team qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It was the first of three straight games between the teams to finish the season.
Tyler Graovac scored 2:30 into the third period to cut the lead to 5-2. It was Vancouver's first power-play goal in 10 games, dating to May 1.

CGY@VAN: Mangiapane rips a one-timer for a 5-1 lead

Boeser scored another power-play goal on a one-timer at 7:47 to bring the Canucks within 5-3, and Miller scored shorthanded at 11:28 to make it 5-4.
"Wow, what a third," coach Travis Green said. "We had probably more chances in the third than some of our games, so our guys showed a lot of character tonight."
Josh Leivo put the Flames ahead 1-0 at 9:30 of the first period on a breakaway after intercepting a pass at the blue line, and Milan Lucic had a pass from Leivo bounce in off his skate to make it 2-0 at 5:48 of the second period.
Matthew Tkachuk scored for the third straight game to make it 3-0 at 7:17, and Mangiapane converted a backdoor pass at 8:05 to put Calgary ahead 4-0.
Travis Hamonic scored off the rush at 13:21 to cut it to 4-1, but Mangiapane put the Flames up 5-1 at 14:03 on a one timer from the left face-off circle.
"We got guys in the room that really care, so nobody was happy with how our second period went," Hughes said. "I think we really wanted to just come out in the third, you know, try our best and see what we can do."
