Dube lifts Flames past Blues

ST. LOUIS --Dillon Dube scored twice in the third period for the Calgary Flames in a 4-1 win against the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center on Thursday.

Walker Duehr scored his first NHL goal, and Elias Lindholm and Tyler Toffoli each had two assists for Calgary (20-14-9), which is 1-0-2 to begin a five-game road trip.
Dan Vladar made 25 saves in his first start since Dec. 28. He is 6-0-2 in his past eight starts.
"You need saves. That's the way the League is, big saves and timely goals, and our team … is not, like, an explosive team," Flames coach Darryl Sutter said. "We all got to play the same way to give ourselves a chance to win."
Jake Neighbours scored, and Thomas Greiss made 36 saves for St. Louis (21-19-3), which won its previous two games, including a 4-3 overtime victory against Calgary on Tuesday.
"I think we couldn't get our forecheck going, couldn't stop them from breaking out pucks," Neighbours said. "Obviously a few costly mistakes end up in the back of your net. Obviously, you'd like the game to swing in a different way after that one. We just couldn't get her going."
Duehr gave the Flames a 1-0 lead at 15:24 of the second period, scoring on a quick shot from the right face-off circle after receiving a pass from Nazem Kadri.
"Yeah, I think I blacked out," Duehr said. "It was a pretty cool feeling and something you dream of, so it was pretty cool."

CGY@STL: Duehr opens the scoring in the 2nd

Duehr, who was playing his second game of the season and third of his career, is the first NHL player born in South Dakota to score in League history.
"That's a kid that wasn't drafted," Sutter said. "Comes up the hard way, spends his four years in school (at Minnesota State University), starts in the American [Hockey] League where everybody should."
Neighbours scored 20 seconds into the third period to tie it 1-1. Forward Noel Acciari's shot attempt caromed off Calgary defenseman Noah Hanifin to Neighbours, who scored high short side from the bottom of the right circle.
"Obviously a good goal to start the period for sure," Blues defenseman Colton Parayko said. "Gave us the momentum, but they obviously answered and got a couple there. Obviously a tough one ... had it tied up early on in the third, but just had to regroup and keep going."
Dube restored the Flames' lead at 10:50 when Toffoli deflected a clearing attempt by forward Robert Thomas into the crease and off Lindholm to Dube, who scored high glove side to make it 2-1.
"We played a full 60 [minutes]," Dube said. "They had their push, and I think it was good for us to get one back and keep going from there."

CGY@STL: Dube puts Flames ahead 2-1 in the 3rd

Blake Coleman made it 3-1 on a backhand in the slot following a turnover by St. Louis defenseman Justin Faulk at 16:04, and Dube scored an empty-net goal at 16:39 for the 4-1 final.
"Two bad puck plays in the third period. That's it," Blues coach Craig Berube said. "Got to make the right play, put it on the walls, can't go up the middle like that under pressure. Just two bad puck plays, and they capitalized on them. We're right in the game."
