Thomas, Kyrou lead Blues to comeback win in OT

ST. LOUIS -- Robert Thomas scored 28 seconds into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 4-3 win against the Calgary Flames at Enterprise Center on Tuesday.

Thomas scored on a one-timer over Flames goalie Jacob Markstrom off a 2-on-1 with Jordan Kyrou to complete a three-goal comeback after the Blues trailed 3-1 in the third period.
"We kind of looked at each other going up the ice, and I had a pretty good idea what [Kyrou] was planning on doing," Thomas said. "Great play by him, and I just had to get it up off the ice."
St. Louis defenseman Justin Faulk made the initial play in the defensive zone when he poked the puck away from Calgary forward Jonathan Huberdeau to spring the two forwards loose.
"It was a great defensive play by 'Faulker' there," Kyrou said. "Me and 'Tommer' got that 2-on-1, and we kind of have our little set play that we do there on a 2-on-1."

CGY@STL: Thomas scores 28 seconds into overtime

Kyrou had a goal and two assists, Thomas and Pavel Buchnevich each had a goal and an assist, and Jordan Binnington made 28 saves for the Blues (21-18-3), who are 4-1-0 in their past five games.
St. Louis used a reset after the second period to revive what it was trying to accomplish and keep its momentum off a four-game road trip.
"I didn't feel we had our legs," Blues coach Craig Berube said. "We didn't push hard enough. Going into the game after the long road trip back home, a little bit worried. But guys responded in the third period. I thought we played a way better period. I thought that the [Tyler] Pitlick, [Alexey Toropchenko], [Nikita] Alexandov [line], I put [Noel] Acciari there later, but those guys really provided a lot of energy for us tonight."
Andrew Mangiapane had a goal and an assist, and Markstrom made 23 saves for the Flames (19-14-9), who have lost two straight in overtime to begin a five-game road trip, which continues here Thursday.
"It obviously [stinks]. That's not the way we want to end the game," Calgary forward Nazem Kadri said. "To be quite honest, I think we played a pretty solid road game. Had a lapse of five minutes [but] the good players don't need many chances to score, and they made us pay."

CGY@STL: Alexandrov, Kyrou net 2 quick goals

Mangiapane gave the Flames a 3-1 lead at 1:02 of the second period when he was left alone in the slot off a pass from Noah Hanifin.
Calgary was feeling good about its game until a brief spell at the start of the third period.
"I think we sat back in the third there and they kind of came in all waves at us," Mangiapane said. "So we didn't really do much in the third there. I felt like we just sat back."
The Blues came out early in the third and tied it on goals by Alexandrov and Kyrou 28 seconds apart.
Alexandrov made it 3-2 at 2:20 when he pounced on a rebound off Steven Santini's shot, and Kyrou tied it 3-3 at 2:48 on a curl-and-drag wrist shot from the high slot.
Thomas thought he had given the Blues a 4-3 lead at 5:37, but the Flames challenged for offside and video review determined Kyrou preceded the puck into the offensive zone.
"It obviously [stinks]," Thomas said. "That would have been a big goal at the time, but we had the momentum after 'Niki's goal. We just knew if we kept sticking with it, then more chances will come, and we will get another look."

CGY@STL: Buchnevich gives Blues lead in 1st period

Buchnevich's power-play goal at 3:50 of the first period put St. Louis ahead 1-0 and extended his point streak to six games (two goals, seven assists). Kyrou found Buchnevich coming down the slot, and his backside pass to Thomas caromed off the stick of Flames defenseman Chris Tanev past Markstrom.
Milan Lucic tied it 1-1 at 13:44 off an odd-man rush for a backdoor tap-in, and Mikael Backlund's tip-in in front off a Nikita Zadorov point shot put the Flames up 2-1 at 15:38.
