Flames break game open in 3rd for road win

SAN JOSE --The Calgary Flames scored two goals in the first 30 seconds of the first period, then rallied with four goals in the third period to defeat the San Jose Sharks 7-3 at SAP Center on Tuesday.

Tyler Toffoli had two goals and an assist, Nazem Kadri scored twice, and Elias Lindholm and Jonathan Huberdeau each had three assists for the Flames (15-12-6), who defeated the Sharks 5-2 on Sunday. Jacob Markstrom made 24 saves.
"[Lindholm] won three face-offs clean in a row, and our defense jumped, and away we went," Calgary coach Darryl Sutter said.
Timo Meier had a goal and an assist, and James Reimer made 32 saves for the Sharks (10-18-6), who have lost three straight (0-2-1).
"Our overall effort was probably pretty embarrassing," San Jose forward Nico Sturm said. "We've lost games, obviously, this season, but I thought the effort was always there. And today I thought, for the first time, we just looked, we looked scared at times. Especially at home, it's unacceptable."

CGY@SJS: Toffoli, Dube help Flames gain quick lead

Toffoli put Calgary ahead 1-0 15 seconds into the first period off a pass from Dillon Dube following a turnover by Matt Benning before Dube skated across the crease and swept the puck past Reimer after an Erik Karlsson turnover to make it 2-0 at 30 seconds. It was the fastest two goals from the start of a game in Flames history, and the fastest two goals the Sharks have given up in their history.
"We just give the puck away on both goals, first two shifts, just big turnovers that end up in the back of the net," San Jose coach David Quinn said. "I thought after that we really played tentative. You're on your heels and you're playing a good, fast team."
Sturm cut it to 2-1 at 14:58 off a pass from Meier for his third goal in the past five games.
Trevor Lewis made it 3-1 at 10:04 of the second period when he scored on a rebound from between the face-off circles for his 200th NHL point.
"Feels good to get a lead, and especially we knew they're going to come out after playing a team back to back," Dube said. "It's hard to win another game against them, especially in their building."

CGY@SJS: Meier nets 17th goal of season in 3rd period

Alexander Barabanov brought the Sharks within 3-2 at 19:23.
Meier tied it 3-3 at 3:58 of the third period on a one-timer from the high slot off a pass from Karlsson. It was his fifth goal in the past six games.
"I thought actually in the third, in the first 10 or 12 minutes, we finally settled in," Sturm said. "But it took us over 40 minutes [to] finally put them on their heels a little bit."

CGY@SJS: Kadri nets 12th goal of season in 3rd period

Kadri put Calgary ahead 4-3 at 10:04, scoring high to the stick side off a pass from Milan Lucic, before Lucic made it 5-3 at 16:43 with a shot that deflected off Reimer's pad.
Toffoli extended the lead to 6-3 with an empty-net goal at 18:22, and Kadri scored five-hole at 18:42 for the 7-3 final.
"We weren't ready to play and it trickled into our game later on, too," Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro said. "It's hard to chase the game. If those [first] two goals didn't happen, maybe our mindset is a little different."
