Ferland returns to Calgary lineup; Pittsburgh could move into second in Metropolitan Division with win

The Game

The Pittsburgh Penguins could move into second place in the Metropolitan Division with a win against the Calgary Flames at PPG Paints Arena on Monday.

Pittsburgh is in third in the division, one point behind the second-place Philadelphia Flyers and three behind the first-place Washington Capitals. It ended a three-game losing streak (0-3-0) with a 3-2 overtime win against the New York Islanders on Saturday.

Goaltender Tristan Jarry will make his second straight start for the Penguins. Matt Murray will miss his fourth straight game because of a concussion.

The Flames have lost three straight games (0-3-0) and are four points behind the Los Angeles Kings for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.


Players to watch

Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk has 10 points (four goals, six assists) in his past nine games.

Penguins forward Sidney Crosby needs three points to reach 1,100 in the NHL. He has three goals in his past five games, including in overtime against the Islanders on Saturday.

Ferland will play after missing four games because of an upper-body injury. Smith did not travel with the Flames as they start a three-game road trip. … Murray skated on his own before the morning skate. Aston-Reese will miss his fourth straight game.
