Martin Jones signed a one-year, $875,000 contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old goalie was 27-13-3 with a 2.99 goals-against average, .887 save percentage and three shutouts in 48 regular-season games (42 starts) for the Seattle Kraken last season to help them qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in their second NHL season. He made one relief appearance in the playoffs.

Signed by the Los Angeles Kings as an undrafted free agent Oct. 2, 2008, Jones is 225-163-35 with a 2.71 GAA, .905 save percentage and 28 shutouts in 444 regular-season games (430 starts) for the Kraken, Philadelphia Flyers, San Jose Sharks and Kings and 32-27 with a 2.36 GAA, .917 save percentage and six shutouts in 63 playoff games (60 starts).

He won the Stanley Cup with the Kings in 2014.

Jones is expected to compete with Joseph Woll for the backup job behind Ilya Samsonov. Woll was 6-1-0 with a 2.16 GAA and .932 save percentage in seven regular-season games and 1-2 with a 2.43 GAA and .915 save percentage in four playoff games last season. He has played 11 NHL games.

The Maple Leafs previously announced they would place goalie Matt Murray on long-term injured reserve prior to the season. He last played April 2 before sustaining a head injury.

Samsonov was 27-10-5 with a 2.33 GAA, .919 save percentage and four shutouts in 42 regular-season games (40 starts) and 4-4 with a 3.13 GAA and .898 save percentage in nine playoff games last season. He was awarded a one-year, $3.55 million contract in arbitration July 23.

Toronto (50-21-11) won a playoff series last season for the first time since 2004 but fired general manager Kyle Dubas, replacing him with Brad Treliving on May 31.

The Maple Leafs also signed forwards Max Domi (one year), Tyler Bertuzzi (one year) and Ryan Reaves (three years), and defenseman John Klingberg (one year) in free agency.
