LAK@SJS: Meier scores 5, most ever in Sharks history

Oh Ti, oh Mei!

San Jose Sharks forward Timo Meier scored a team record five goals on Monday in a
6-2 win against the Los Angeles Kings
.
It is the first five-goal game in the NHL since Mika Zibanejad scored five times on March 5, 2020. Meier became just the fifth player to score five times in the past quarter century.

Meier, you could say, was on fire. He had a hat trick in the first period after scoring twice inside of 21 seconds. He then added two more goals in the second.
"I can't remember ever seeing a guy that hot. You know, the first period he had and coming back and getting another two. ... It was nice to see," Sharks coach Bob Boughner said. "What a great season he's had. And being voted as our All-Star, which was much deserved. ... I believe, you put in the good, hard work and you get paid back, and Timo got paid back today."
Meier's hands were just big enough to hold all five pucks for a postgame picture.

"He's a big body that skates well. It's hard to play against that," said Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson, who picked up career assist No. 500 in the game. "He finds open areas out there and he has been doing that on a consistent level this year."
Meier stayed humble while being interviewed after the game.

On Instagram, he posted a picture of him hugging defenseman Brent Burns with the caption,

But the game was probably best summed up by teammate Tomas Hertl.
"Tonight," Hertl said, "was Timo's night."
