The Calgary Flames goalie pulled in references from team greats of the past for the design by mask artist Jordon Bourgeault of JBo Airbrush.
On top of the mask is a fire-breathing dragon like the one Trevor Kidd wore during the 1995-96 season. Miikka Kiprusoff's angry flying skull is on one side, and the design from Mike Vernon's mask during the 1993-94 season is featured along the jawline.
The backplate has the Three Crowns, Sweden's national emblem. And Bourgeault also hand-painted the straps with flames and bones so the back resembles skull and crossbones.
But perhaps the most unexpected element of the fiery mask are the larger skull's teeth, or lack thereof. The Flames defenseman's unique grill served as inspiration for the fractured smile.
