Vitek split

Who says you can't go home again?

A week after the Seattle Kraken selected goalie Vitek Vanecek from the Washington Capitals in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft, they sent him right back from whence he came.
On Wednesday, the first day of free agency, the Kraken traded Vanecek to the Capitals for a second-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. Seattle signed goalie Philipp Grubauer to a six-year, $35.5 million contract earlier in the day.
So naturally, jokes were made.
First was from Seattle, which stuck a Kraken logo on an action shot of Vanecek with the words, "Thank you for an unforgettable week."

Then came a little video editing fun from Washington as they inserted the two teams and Vanecek into the Grandpa Simpson trip to the Springfield brothel meme.

This might've been a new phenomenon for the Capitals, but the Kraken flipped another player just yesterday with similar well wishes.
They selected defenseman Kurtis MacDermid from the Los Angeles Kings in the Expansion Draft, then traded him to the Colorado Avalanche for a fourth-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.

But you know what they say: Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.
