Matthews uses skates, stick with SickKids logo, gets hat trick

Auston Matthews rocked some new equipment for a great cause, and it paid off in a big way.

The Toronto Maple Leafs forward wore custom-designed skates and used a stick featuring the logo for The Hospital for Sick Children.
The logo for "SickKids," as it is widely known, was emblazoned on Matthews' skates and stick for a game against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. He went out and scored two goals in 39 seconds in the first period and finished with his third career hat trick.

Matthews

supporter of SickKids
and the
feeling is mutual
from the young patients being treated there.
"Our Hockey Fights Cancer night [was] tonight so a couple of months back I came up with the idea of honoring SickKids and our team has a great relationship with them," Matthews said. "I've been lucky and fortunate to build a relationship with them as well, starting in my first year here. So I thought it was a very, very appropriate night to honor them and the amazing work they do there for kids."
The special CCM skates and stick is in tribute to the Toronto hospital and in support in of the fight against Cystic Fibrosis. The hospital made their feelings known about the design on Twitter.

The skates and stick are set to be auctioned off at a future date with the proceeds benefitting SickKids.
