CBJ@TBL, Gm1: 7th Period Stretch at Scotiabank Arena

You've heard of the seventh-inning stretch in baseball. Hockey got its version Tuesday.

The scoreboard at Scotiabank Arena acknowledged the seventh-period break during a pause in play in the fourth overtime of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference First Round between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Lightning forward Brayden Point ended the fourth-longest Stanley Cup Playoff game in NHL history by beating Columbus goalie Joonas Korpisalo at 10:27 of the fifth overtime. The seventh-period stretch wasn't the only cheeky bit put on in Toronto as the scoreboard also apologized for any fans who missed dinner plans due to the game's length.

Korpisalo faced 88 shots and set a new NHL record with 85 saves. His goaltending partner Elvis Merzlikins applauded his effort and offered some much-needed hydration on Twitter after the game.

Columbus' Twitter account came up with an apt comparison to the insanely long game.

The marathon playoff game also caught the attention of current and former players, who took to Twitter to comment on the game. Montreal Canadiens forward Max Domi, whose team will open its playoff slate against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday, saluted each team's effort on Twitter.

The game postponed Game 1 of the Carolina Hurricanes vs. Boston Bruins first-round series until Wednesday (11 a.m. ET; NBCSN, TVAS, SN, NESN, FS-CR). Forward Andrei Svechnikov was among the Hurricanes to simply roll with the altered schedule.

Carolina's Twitter account, on the other hand, was a bit salty that Point scored after the game had been pushed back.

The Vegas Golden Knights, who opened also their playoff slate with Game 1 of the Western Conference First Round against the Chicago Blackhawks in Edmonton, thanked the Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars for ending their series opener in regulation.

The Lightning took a 1-0 lead in their best-of-7 series, much to the delight of their fans. Famous supporters like WWE superstar Titus O'Neal and actor Patrick Wilson were among those to bask in the series-opening win.

Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday (3 p.m. ET, NBCSN, TVAS, SN, SUN, FS-O).
