NHL teams, players celebrate Pride Day with messages of support

All around the NHL on Friday, teams and players celebrated Pride Day, offering up pictures, videos and even special gear to benefit LGBTQ+ charities.

June 26th is a significant date because in 2015 the U.S. Supreme Court held in a 5-4 decision that the Fourteenth Amendment requires all states to grant same-sex marriages and recognize same-sex marriages granted in other states.

The Chicago Blackhawks teamed up with Rowboat Creative to make special edition Pride shirts available. Proceeds will be going to Chicago Blackhawks Foundation, and Center on Halsted, which is dedicated to advancing community and securing the health and well-being of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) people of Chicago.

They also shared a video of the United Center welcoming the Chicago Gay Hockey Association.

The Washington Capitals shared a clip from forward Lars Eller.

The Dallas Stars posted a conversation between defenseman John Klingberg and an executive board member of You Can Play, which works ensure the safety and inclusion for all who participate in sports, including LGBTQ+ athletes, coaches and fans.

Minnesota Wild forward J.T. Brown shared a great family photo of his wife, Lexi, and their two children all decked out in Pride gear.

The Philadelphia Flyers had Scott Laughton, Travis Konecny and James van Riemsdyk read a special message to mark the occasion.

The defending Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues also shared a message with their fans.

Even Gritty got in on the action, carrying a rainbow flag across a green field.

Teams also celebrated by changing their social media profile pictures and charing memories from last year's Pride Day parades.
