David Ayres life has changed just a little bit since Saturday night, when he became the

in an NHL game for the Carolina Hurricanes.
But a talk with his mom can still bring out the emotions.

Ayres was on a whirlwind media tour on Monday, starting with NBC's "Today" where they called his mother, Mary, on air.

Ayres could barely hold back the tears on the show as his mother gushed over her son, and not just his historic performance on Saturday night.
During the near eight-minute interview, Ayres also mentioned that he got a text message from
Scott Foster, the last EBUG to play in an NHL game
. Foster, an accountant by day, stopped seven shots in for the Chicago Blackhawks back on March 29. 2018.
Interestingly enough, there was only one other EBUG besides Ayres and Foster to ever see game action. And he was in the building for Ayres' game.
Jorge Alves, a Hurricanes equipment manager for the past seven years,
played the closing seconds of their game on December 31, 2016
. Alves routinely fills in at practice and was signed as an EBUG in place of an ill Eddie Lack that night. He was inserted into the closing seconds by then-Hurricanes coach Bill Peters.
In addition to the popular NBC morning show, Ayres appeared on "The Dan LeBatard Show" where he joked about doing his usual leg workout in the afternoon, thinking there would be no chance he'd get it in during the game.

He also appeared on ESPN Radio's "Golic and Wingo."

Other appearances included NBC Sports' "ProHockeyTalk," CBS' "DA Show," ESPN's "SportsCenter," TSN's "Tradecentre," Fox News' "Fox & Friends," CNN's "World Sport" and "The Dan Patrick Show." He was also slated to tape a spot for 99.9 FM in Raleigh's "Adam and Joe" show.
Monday's chaotic schedule finished up with a cameo on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert."

On the show, Colbert pretended to pull a hamstring during the opening monologue and had Ayres rush out from backstage to finish up.
Later, the show's band leader, Jon Batiste, feigned illness and Ayres sat at the piano and mashed some keys while wearing a blocker and goalie glove.
And if you think the chaos will stop on Tuesday, think again. That is the night he is scheduled to appear at PNC Arena to ring the Hurricanes siren sounder.

Ayres will also get a proclamation from the mayor of Raleigh, Mary-Ann Baldwin.

My gosh, he's
already had a song written
about him.
The man's fame is skyrocketing. Better
get those T-shirts
while you still can.
