Sean-Monahan

CALGARY --Sean Monahan will miss the rest of the Calgary Flames season because of undisclosed injuries.
The 23-year-old center leads the Flames with 31 goals and is second with 64 points, behind forward Johnny Gaudreau, who has 82 points (23 goals, 59 assists).

"Sean has been battling through two injuries over the past month and it has reached a stage where it must be addressed," Flames general manager Brad Treliving said.
Monahan will have surgery in the coming days.
"He's been playing through two significant injuries here," coach Glen Gulutzan said Friday. "He's been gutting it out. He's been injected in two places for the last three weeks here just to get him through the games.
The Flames (35-30-10), who have lost four straight games and are 3-8-1 in their past 12, trail the Anaheim Ducks by eight points for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference with seven games remaining.
"He was willing to do whatever it takes to keep going," Gulutzan said of Monahan. "It certainly affected him. We knew that. But we needed him to try to push here in this last month. It's had an effect on him, I think even psychological too. At the end of the day, we have to do what's best for our players."
Monahan's 64 points are his most in an NHL season, and his 31 goals match his previous best, set in 2014-15.

He has 11 game-winning goals, tied for the NHL lead with Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon and tied with Joe Nieuwendyk (1988-89) for the second most in a season in Flames history. Joe Mullen scored 12 in 1986-87.
"[Sean is] not going to be the guy to not play on his own accord," Calgary captain Mark Giordano said. "He's going to push to play right to the bitter end. That's the type of person he is. He hides his emotions sometimes, but he's an emotional guy and he cares a lot about wins and losses. That's why you see him out there battling through injuries."
The Flames will continue to be without forward Matthew Tkachuk, who has missed five games with an upper-body injury sustained in a 5-2 loss to the New York Islanders on March 11.
Neither Tkachuk nor defenseman TJ Brodie (upper body) will travel with the Flames on a two-game road trip beginning at the San Jose Sharks on Saturday (4 p.m. ET; NBCSCA, SNW, NHL.TV).
"We're still hoping at some point they can come back," Gulutzan said.
Forward Kris Versteeg will not. Versteeg, who played twice after missing 49 games because of hip surgery, has been shut down for the rest of the season.
"He came back early trying to get in for us, so he will not practice or travel," Gulutzan said. "He's done, that I can tell."
