ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Blues defeated the San Jose Sharks 2-1 in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final at Scottrade Center on Sunday.

Key intangible stat: For Burns, it was one ill-advised moment in the second period. Despite being under little duress, he played the puck forward carelessly. It was intercepted by Jori Lehtera and play turned the other way. Lehtera let go of a shot, with Burns defending, that beat goalie Martin Jones between the far arm and chest. It was the winning goal. Pietrangelo entered the series averaging 29:41 per game this postseason. He was used a bit more sparingly in Game 1, finishing with 25:24 of ice time.

Best moment: Burns is the trigger for the Sharks offense when he is on the ice. That was the case Sunday as well. Burns had 14 shot attempts; nobody else on the Sharks had more than seven (Joe Pavelski). It was one of those shot attempts, in the first period, which led to the San Jose goal. Burns took a fluttering slap shot from the point, which was deflected by both Pavelski and Tomas Hertl before bouncing past goalie Brian Elliott. The goal came 34 seconds after St. Louis had taken a 1-0 lead at 15:04.

What Pietrangelo said: "I think obviously a good feeling at home. Had some ups and downs playing at home. I thought we played a pretty good game overall, I think it was a feeling off process for both teams, coming off a big series like both of us did. Game 2 will be interesting."
