BRAMPTON, Ont. - Brett Mackie scored in the third period as the Belleville Bulls beat the Brampton Battalion 3-1 in Ontario Hockey League play Friday.
Mackie took advantage of a puck handling miscue by Battalion goaltender Patrick Killeen behind his net to break a 1-1 tie at 5:52 in the third.
The Battalion (0-3-0) opening the scoring 10:29 into the first. Ian Watters took advantage of a Bulls' turnover in their own end, feeding Domenic Alberga who slipped a backhander past Belleville goalie Philipp Grubauer for his first career OHL goal.
It was Grubauer's only blemish on the night, as he stopped every one of the 33 other shots that he faced. Killeen stopped 29 shots for the loss.
Belleville (1-1-0) pulled even on the power play at 9:49 of the second when Shawn Lalonde deflected Stephen Silas' shot from the point.
Andy Bathgate provided some insurance at the 12:26 mark of the third, pouncing on a rebound in the slot.
It was the first meeting between the two teams since last season's Eastern Conference final, when Brampton prevailed in six games.
