The Buffalo Sabres signed Minnesota State University defenseman Casey Nelson to an entry-level contract on Tuesday.
"We've been consistently impressed with Casey's play for the last two years," Sabres general manager Tim Murray said. "We identified him as one of the top college free agents available and we're excited to have him join the organization."

The 23-year-old undrafted free agent was the 2015-16 Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Year and named All-WCHA First Team.
Nelson had six goals and 22 points in 40 games this season for the Mavericks, and 14 goals and 60 points in 99 games at the school.
