SPOKANE, Wash. - Chris Bruton and Drayson Bowman each had a goal and an assist as the Spokane Chiefs overwhelmed the Portland Winter Hawks 5-2 in Western Hockey League action Friday night.
The Chiefs netted two goals in the first period. Bruton scored on assists from Bowman and Mitch Wahl and Spokane native Tyler Johnson scored the second goal of his WHL career midway through the period.
Spokane (4-2-1-1) also got goals from Wahl and Judd Blackwater to bring its four-game losing streak to an end.
Portland's Chris Francis and Radim Valchar countered for the Winter Hawks (1-6-0-0), who have dropped two straight.
Spokane goalie Kevin Armstrong made 21 saves while Portland's Mark Guggenberger stopped 40 shots in his first start of the season.
