BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins' home game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday will be more than just a homecoming for the team after a three-game California road trip.
It'll mark the first home game for forward Shawn Thornton, who returned from his 15-game suspension Saturday in the Bruins' lone win of their trip, a 1-0 victory against the San Jose Sharks.
Thornton's previous game was Dec. 7 when he was assessed a match penalty for an incident with the Pittsburgh Penguins' Brooks Orpik. A popular player during his seven seasons with the Bruins, Thornton should expect a warm welcome from the Boston fans.
"I hope so," Thornton said after the team's morning skate. "That would be nice. I can't predict what will happen. Obviously I appreciate how they've been with me the whole time I've been here. If I get a little clap of the hands it'd be awesome."
It also will be the first home game for Loui Eriksson since he sustained a concussion that same night against the Penguins. He also returned Saturday in the game at San Jose.
The Bruins will be missing defenseman Dougie Hamilton, who has been diagnosed with a concussion, according to coach Claude Julien.
The Maple Leafs will not know until game time if forward David Clarkson is going to play. Coach Randy Carlyle said Clarkson, who did not take part in the morning skate, was exhibiting flu-like symptoms.
There will be at least one lineup change because the Leafs recalled forward Peter Holland from Toronto of the American Hockey League on Monday and sent down forward Jerry D'Amigo.
