Bruins-Red Wings clash Feb. 13 on NBC @NHL
Division leaders and teams steeped in tradition will square off Feb. 13 as the Boston Bruins face the Detroit Red Wings in the NBC "Game of the Week," the NHL and NBC Sports announced Thursday.

The two "Original Six" franchises will meet at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit for a matinee showdown on national television. The Bruins and Red Wings have combined to win the Stanley Cup 16 times, and both have captured it more than any other U.S.-based club.

The Red Wings enter the All-Star break atop the Central Division and second in the Western Conference with 66 points. Captain Nicklas Lidstrom will be selecting one of the teams for the 2011 NHL All-Star Game presented by Discover on Friday as part of the All-Star Fantasy Player Draft powered by Cisco.

Henrik Zetterberg is seventh in the League with 53 points, and despite a rash of injuries the Red Wings are second in the NHL in goals per game at 3.35.

All-Star goalie Tim Thomas has led the Bruins to the top of the Northeast Division. The Flint, Mich., native could be the favorite for the Vezina Trophy at the break. Thomas leads the League in goals-against average (1.81), save percentage (.945) and is tied for the most shutouts with seven.

Boston captain Zdeno Chara also is going to be in Raleigh, N.C., this weekend as an All-Star. Chara is among the League leaders in ice time with more than 26 minutes per game and is one of eight Bruins with at least 10 goals this season.

The two teams will meet two days prior to their showdown in Motown -- a Feb. 11 contest at TD Garden in Boston. It is a rare back-to-back set of games for teams from opposite conferences, but it could provide an extra level of intensity for the Sunday afternoon tilt.
